US BTS releases Freight Transportation Services Index for Jan-2010

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reports (10-Mar-2010) the Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) rose 0.4% in Jan-2010 when compared to the previous month in Dec-2009. The Jan-2010 Freight TSI of 96.6 is the lowest for the month of January since Jan-1997. Meanwhile, the passenger TSI eased 0.5% year-on-year in Jan-2010, the second consecutive January-to-January decrease, also the first consecutive January-to-January decrease in the 20 years for which the TSI is calculated.
