US airlines' operating profit doubled in 4Q2010

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported (28-Jun-2011) the following financial highlights for US domestic airlines:

  • Three months ended 31-Dec-2010:
    • Operating revenue: USD44.0 billion, +10.4% year-on-year;
      • Domestic: USD30.1 billion, +7.7%;
      • International: USD13.9 billion, +16.6%;
    • Operating profit: USD1.6 billion, +116%;
      • Domestic: USD981.3 million, +340%;
      • International: USD658.6 million, +22.8%;
  • 12 months ended 31-Dec-2010:
    • Operating revenue: USD174.5 billion, +12.5%;
      • Domestic: USD119.1 billion, +8.6%;
      • International: USD55.4 billion, +22.2%;
    • Operating profit: USD10.5 billion, +350%;
      • Domestic: USD6.0 billion, +393%;
      • International: USD4.4 billion, +303%;
    • Passenger numbers: 787.3 million, +2.6%;
      • Domestic: 629.5 million, +1.9%;
      • International: 157.8 million, +5.5%;
    • Load factor: 81.9%, +2.2 ppts;
      • Domestic: 82.2%, +1.1 ppt;
      • International: 81.6%, +3.3 ppts.
