TUI Travel PLC orders additional two 787s

TUI Travel PLC announced (19-Nov-2013) that is has completed an order for two additional Boeing 787-8 aircraft from Boeing. The additional order takes the Group's commitment from 13 to 15 787s, with the additional two aircraft expected to arrive in 2016. TUI Travel operates six airlines, four of which operate, or will operate, 787 aircraft: Thomson Airways, Arkefly, TUI Fly Nordic and Jetairfly. The carrier noted that two more of the aircraft will join the fleet in the coming months, and will be operated by Jetairfly and Arkefly. TUI Travel said it has "purchased the aircraft at a significant discount to the list price as a result of various concessions, allowances and support from Boeing". At current list prices, the value of two 787-8 aircraft is USD422 million. TUI Travel CEO Peter Long said: "We have developed our strategy by putting the customer at the centre of everything we do. The 787 Dreamliner is another example where we have led the way by enhancing the customer experience and improving environmental efficiencies, both of which differentiate us from other tour operators. The feedback we receive from those who fly on these aircraft is exceptional and this order allows us to continue to deliver the best possible customer holiday experience - from the point customers start dreaming of their holiday until they get home." The purchase was originally attributed on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website to an unidentified customer. TUI took delivery of its first 787-8 in May-2013 and now has four aircraft in service. TUI Travel originally ordered the 787 in Feb-2005. [more - original PR] [more - original PR - II]
