TSA states body scanners safe after second round of testing

US Transportation Security Administration announced new tests of full-body scanners found the radiation they emit is within acceptable levels, after previous checks found some anomalies in the results (Reuters, 25-May-2011). The machines, which have provoked health concerns about excessive radiation exposure, are deployed at 78 of airports across the US.

TSA: "The latest reports confirm previous testing and show that every backscatter unit currently used for passenger screening in US airports is operating well within applicable national safety standards." TSA spokesperson Nicholas Kimball. Source: Reuters, 24-May-2011.
