Thai Airways Executive Chairman resigns

Thai Airways' Executive Chairman, Wallop Bhukkanasut, resigned from the carrier on 05-Jan-2010, following an investigation into allegations Mr Bhukkanasut evaded excess baggage charges on a flight last year (Reuters/Dow Jones, 05-Jan-2010/Bangkok Post, 06-Jan-2010). Thai Transport Minister, Sopon Zarum, denied the resignation was over the issue. Mr Bhukkanasut originally tendered his resignation on 18-Dec-2009, but Chairman, Ampon Kitti-ampon refused to accept the resignation until Mr Bhukkanasut had testifified before the investigation committee over the incident. The carrier plans to continue with the investigation.
