South Korea's int'l pax up 7% in Jul-2013, domestic pax up 5%

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reported (27-Aug-2013) international passenger numbers rose 6.7% year-on-year to 4.6 million in Jul-2013, the highest number of international passengers in the month of July. Details include:

  • Passenger numbers: 6.6 million, +6.2% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 1.9 million, +5.1%;
      • LCCs: 950,000, +19.6%;
    • International: 4.6 million, +6.7%;
      • Japan: 937,442, -6.6%;
      • China: 1.3 million, +20.4%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.4 million, +7.0%;
      • Americas: 394,500, +5.0%;
      • Europe: 340,058, +4.0%;
      • Oceania: 146,150, +1.3%;
      • Others: 76,168, +9.1%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea's full service carriers accounted for 64.6% of total international passengers in Jul-2013 while the nation's LCCs accounted for 10.5% of the total international passengers, up 2.5 ppts. South Korea's LCCs had a domestic market share of 49%, up 6 ppts.
