South Korea's int'l pax numbers up 2% in May-2013, domestic pax down 2%

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (26-Jun-2013) the following traffic highlights in May-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 5.9 million, +0.3% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 2.1 million, -1.9%;
      • LCCs: 990,000, +8.5%;
    • International: 3.9 million, +1.6%;
      • Japan: 865,767, -8.7%;
      • China: 953,344, +3.7%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.2 million, +6.0%;
      • Americas: 362,860, +1.5%;
      • Europe: 282,148, +1.4%;
      • Oceania: 130,012, +19.4%;
      • Others: 69,234, +16%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea's full service carriers accounted for 65.3% of total international passengers in May-2013 while the nation's LCCs accounted for 9.0% of the total international passengers, up 2 ppts. South Korea's LCCs had a domestic market share of 47.8%, up 4.5 ppts.
