South Korea's int'l pax numbers up 15% to 22.9 million in 1H2012, pax up across all regions

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (25-Jul-2012) international passenger numbers rose 14.6% year-on-year for the six months ended Jun-2012:

  • Passenger numbers:
  • International: 22.9 million, +14.6% year-on-year;
    • By region:
      • Japan: 5.7 million, +19.5%;
      • China: 5.0 million, +9.6%;
      • Southeast Asia: 7.6 million, +17.2%;
      • Americas: 2.0 million, +4.8%;
      • Europe: 1.5 million, +12.5%;
      • Oceania: 772,279, +19%;
      • Others: 345,455, +16.8%;
    • LCCs: 1.5 million, +111%;
  • Domestic: 11.0 million, +9.1%;
    • LCCs: 4.7 million, +16%;
  • Cargo volume: 1.7 million tonnes, -1.4%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea’s full service carriers accounted for 66.7% of total international passengers in 1H2012, up 1.0 ppt while the nation’s LCCs accounted for 6.8% of the total international passenger numbers, up 3.2 ppts. South Korea’s LCCs accounted for 43.1%, up 2.6 ppts of the total domestic passenger numbers in 1H2012.
