Rolls-Royce delivers Trent 1000 engines for Boeing 787-9 first flight

Rolls-Royce announced (19-Jun-2013) it has delivered Trent 1000 engines to power the first test flight of the latest member of the Boeing 787 family, the 787-9. The engines will provide 74,000lb thrust for the 787-9 aircraft, which will fly for the first time later this year. Trent 1000s will also power the aircraft's entry into service with Air New Zealand in 2014. The engines that will power the 787-9 are 1% more fuel efficient than Trent 1000s currently in service. A further upgrade, the Trent 1000-TEN, will enter service in 2016 and will be up to 3% more fuel efficient than Trent 1000s currently in service. The Trent 1000-TEN will be able to power all variants of the 787, including the 787-10. [more - original PR]
