Rio de Janeiro GIG concession agreement signed by new operator Aeroportos de Futuro

Brazil's Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport stated (02-Apr-2014) a concession agreement was signed with new operator Aeroportos do Futuro, a consortium of Odebrecht TransPort and Changi Airports International. The consortium was awarded the 25-year concession in Nov-2013 and assumes a 51% stake in Galeão, with state operator Infraero maintaining a 49% stake. Infraero will continue to operate the facility with Aeroportos do Futuro in a secondary role for the next 150 days, with the concessionaire to then manage the facility together with Infraero for the following three months, before Aeroportos de Futuro then assumes complete management. The new operator must now make short-term improvements to the facility including signage improvements and installing complimentary Wifi access. Going forward the operator will be assessed according to 32 quality of service indicators through user surveys, with their outcome to impact the adjustment of fees received. Brazil's President Dilma Rouseff said the signing is indicative of the Government's efforts to improve national infrastructure, while Civil Aviation Minister Moreira Franco said the new investments will allow the facility to meet the expected "tremendous growth" in demand.
