Qantas to trial iPads for IFE

Qantas plans (15-Sep-2011) to trial in-flight entertainment to be delivered via personal iPads, the airline's executive manager of customer experience Alison Webster said. Qantas will trial the technology on one B767-300 for six weeks from Oct-2011. iPads will be provided during the trial but the airline hopes passengers will be able to connect using their own Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The specially configured iPads will offer television shows, movies and music, all delivered via wireless technology. The service will be known as "Q Streaming". Qantas claims to be the first airline in the world to trial the wireless technology, which could see iPads replacing all personal seat-back television screens. Qantas' LCC Jetstar is also planning to trial iPads for the same purpose. [more - original PR]
