Qantas expects Gulf carriers to make fuel surcharge moves

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce stated he does not expect the airline's fuel surcharge increase to make it less competitive (Australian Financial Review, 04-Feb-2010). Mr Joyce said he believes more competitors offering international services from Australia will do the same thing.

Qantas: "The imperative on everybody is to do it, because fuel prices impact all the international carriers. Our view is a lot of the Middle Eastern carriers are losing a significant amount of money and if they don't move on fuel surcharges, it increases the losses they have to digest." Alan Joyce, CEO.
