PEOPLExpress to launch seven routes from Newport in summer 2014

PEOPLExpress announced (30-May-2014) plans to launch service from Newport News Williamsburg International Airport on 30-Jun-2014, operated by Vision Airlines with three Boeing 737-400 aircraft - see Route Changes Table for more information. The aircraft will bear the logo of the previous 1980s carrier. According to OAG, PEOPLExpress will be the sole operator on the following routes, unless specified:

  • Newport-New York Newark: Twice daily service to launch on 30-Jun-2014;
  • Newport-Boston: Daily service to launch on 30-Jun-2014;
  • Newport-Pittsburgh: Daily service to launch on 30-Jun-2014;
  • Newport-West Palm Beach: Daily service to launch on 15-Jul-2014;
  • Newport-Atlanta: Six times weekly service to launch on 01-Aug-2014. Delta Air Lines also operates on this route;
  • Newport-St Pete/Clearwater: Three times weekly service to launch 28-Aug-2014;
  • Newport-New Orleans: Three times weekly service to launch 28-Aug-2014.

PEOPLExpress will operate from two gates on concourse A at Newport News Airport. CEO Jeffrey Erickson stated, "PEOPLExpress has been looking at market opportunities to replace service Newport News lost to places like Boston and New York and other underserved markets that have seen service declines with consolidation of the airline industry."
