Mombasa Airport's safety comes under fire

Kenya's Moi International Airport's (Mombasa) safety has been brought into question by a parliamentary committee, after private construction has taken place on the airport's perimeter (The Nation, 30-Sep-2010). The committee stated that it is "worrying" that buildings are being put up close to runways, as they can "easily interfere" with the airport's operations. Kenya Airports Authority will be called upon to look over plans and ensure there is at least a 50m buffer zone between private developments and the airport's perimeter.
