MAHB: KLIA2 prepared to receive AirAsia services

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) announced (07-May-2014) Kuala Lumpur International Airport's new terminal two (KLIA2) is operationally ready to handle AirAsia services. The second phase of operational transfers to KLIA2 will commence on 08-May-2014 with AirAsia and its subsidiaries. MAHB advised it has conducted simulation trials since Feb-2014 and held several meetings with AirAsia in preparation for the service transfer. MAHB advised KLIA2 has successfully managed services by Malindo Airways, Lion Air, Tiger Airways and Cebu Pacific Airways since the terminal's inauguration on 02-May-2014. To date, KLIA2 has handled a total of 33,000 passengers and approximately 300 aircraft movements. MAHB advised the core operational units including check-in systems, baggage handling and aerobridges have operated efficiently since the opening day. MAHB deployed 128 check-in counters, 55 self-service kiosks and an automated baggage handling system to efficiently convey passengers. MAHB stated the new terminal is well equipped to handle AirAsia's service requirements. According to Malaysia Airports, AirAsia could experience a few complications due to its large service structure and fleet but expects a smooth transition overall.
