LAN and TAM merger suspended over competition concerns

Chile's antitrust agency TLDC suspended LAN Airlines' USD3.7 billion acquisition of TAM Airlines so it can review a petition filed by the consumer group Conadecus (Bloomberg, 30-Jan-2011). Conadecus posted on TLDC's website that the deal may affect competition "far beyond the Santiago-Sao Paulo route".
