Kuala Lumpur Airport completes construction of third runway

Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur International Airport completed (07-Oct-2013) construction of its third runway as part of its terminal two project (KLIA2). The runway measures 3960m by 60m and is capable of handling any current aircraft fully loaded. The project was undertaken by KUB Builders. Malindo Air operated a trial landing on the runway with a Boeing 737-900ER aircraft, which also tested the precision approach path indicator system and approach lighting. Further works, including airport ground lighting, are expected to be complete by the end of Nov-2013. KLIA2 is scheduled to be operational in May-2014. Malaysia's Acting Minister of Transport Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said, "The completion of the Runway 3 is a significant milestone in the nation's aviation history as Malaysia is the first country in this region to have a third runway for its flagship airport."
