JAL announces order for 20 787-9 aircraft including 10 new purchases and conversion of 10 787-8s

The JAL Group (JAL) announced (15-Feb-2012) an order for 20 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which it intends to deploy on medium to long-haul international routes after FY2015, as part of its Mid-Term Management Plans for FY2012 to FY2016. The 20 orders comprise 10 new purchases and a conversion of 10 of the 35 787-8s it currently has on order. JAL's overall purchase of the 787 now stands at 25 firm orders of the 787-8 and 20 of the 787-9 (which can fit approximately 50 more seats than the 787-8 configured for international routes), with 20 options, raising the initial order of 35 787s to 45.
