Indigenous engine for C919 to have design finalised by end of year

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) announced it expects the design for the indigenous engine for the C919 to be finished by the end of 2011 (China Daily, 30-Jun-2011). AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine reportedly plans to have the engine operational by 2016, with certification to follow around 2018-2020. Initial trials of prototype components for the engine have already been conducted. At the Paris Air Show, CFM International and COMAC signed a agreement setting the LEAP-X engine as the sole Western powerplant for the C919
