Indian Court allows private carriers to continue ground handling until Jul-2011
India's Supreme Court allowed private carriers to continue their own ground handling duties at six of the country's major airports until Jul-2011, following an appeal by the Federation of Indian Airlines (Press Trust of India, 05-May-2011/Business Standard, 06-May-2011). The court last month allowed private carriers to the "renewal of passes on the ground handling staff subject to their entering into a memorandum of understanding with any ground handling agency". The court will commence a hearing challenging the government's plans to take ground handling operations away from private carriers in the same month.
