India outlines delivery schedule for Air India 787s, to be deployed to Europe and Australia

India's Minister of Civil Aviation Ajit Singh launched (12-Sep-2012) the first Air India Boeing 787 aircraft on 12-Sep-2012, following its arrival in Delhi on 08-Sep-2012. 27 787s will be delivered from 2012 to Mar-2016 with the following delivery schedule:

  • 2012: Five additional 787s in addition to the recently-received first 787 delivery;
  • 2013: Seven aircraft;
  • 2014: Five;
  • 2015: Six;
  • 2016: Three.

The carrier will deploy 787 equipment on services to Europe and Australia from winter 2012, with Mr Singh stating, "it is expected that the aircraft will be a game changer for Air India". He noted the 787 will consume 30% less fuel than the 777. [more - original PR]
