Hong Kong International Airport reports record traffic in Jul-2012; aviation prospect 'promising'

Hong Kong International Airport passenger numbers up 1% - traffic highlights for Jul-2012:

  • Passenger numbers: 5.0 million, +0.5% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 335,000 tonnes, -1.6%;
  • Aircraft movements: 29,880, +3.4%. [more - original PR]

The airport attributed the record traffic to travel by Hong Kong residents, which saw a 6% year-on-year growth while passenger traffic to/from Japan and Taiwan performed particularly well. The airport also stated that despite a 4% in imports, cargo volume declined primarily because of a 4% year-on-year decline in exports and a 3% decline in transshipments.

Airport Authority Hong Kong: "We are pleased that both passenger and air traffic movements have once again set records, and we believe that the growth trend will continue in the coming months. Meanwhile, we will keep a close eye on the latest situation in the cargo market. The prospects for aviation are promising," Stanley Hui, CEO. Source: Company statement, 19-Aug-2012.
