Hong Kong Airport report strong growth in Oct-2013, expects cargo growth to surpass global average

Hong Kong International Airport passenger numbers up 7% - traffic highlights for Sep-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 5.0 million, +6.8% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 367,000 tonnes, +6.1%;

The airport reported (17-Nov-2013) passenger traffic growth was "practically" across the board with a 7% increase in visitor traffic and an 11% increase in Hong Kong resident traffic. Passenger traffic to/from Southeast Asia, Japan and mainland China recorded the most significant increases. Meanwhile, cargo throughput to/from Southeast Asia and mainland China surpassed growth to other key regions. Looking ahead, Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui said "we expect this upward momentum to continue as we approach the end of the year. Cargo throughput is expected to outperform the global average for the year, reinforcing HKIA's position as the world's busiest cargo hub."
