Eurowings will cover 'Lufthansa traffic within Europe which is not touching the hubs': Lufthansa

Lufthansa head of finance Markus Ott, speaking at CAPA's Airline Fleet & Finance Summit Asia, said (02-Mar-2015) the carrier's new low-cost carrier Eurowings will "do all the Lufthansa traffic within Europe which is not touching the hubs." Mr Ott explained Eurowings "have a considerably lower cost base than Lufthansa has because they have more favourable union contacts and therefore we think that's a very good answer to the low cost schemes in Europe." Mr Ott continued: "They're fairly optimistic they'll open new markets for Lufthansa so its twofold. On the one hand it's to defend our markets against other low cost competitors, and its increasing into new market fields."
