Employee union to hold strike at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport

Israel Airports Authority's (IAA) employee union plans to launch a general strike at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport on 09-Sep-2010, over a dispute on pension funds (Haaretz, 08-Sep-2010). Under the strike, employees plan to operate under emergency procedures, with reduced staff numbers. The union is concerned IAA is taking too long to establish a fund to safeguard employees' pensions. Employees stated the workers' committee and the Histadrut labour federation have approached the airport operators a number of times over the past two years to discuss the issue, but progress is still yet to be made. IAA reiterated that it decided three years ago that the pension funds would not be used for any other purposes.
