Delta, US Airways announce new agreement for slots in New York and Washington

Delta Air Lines and US Airways have reached a new agreement to swap take-off and landing rights at New York and Washington airports, revising a 2009 proposed deal that was never completed (Reuters/Bloomberg, 23-May-2011). Delta is to acquire 132 slot pairs at New York's LaGuardia Airport from US Airways, and US Airways would acquire 42 slot pairs at Washington's Reagan National Airport from Delta. The deal also includes US Airways gaining rights to operate an additional daily service to Sao Paulo in 2015. Delta will pay US Airways USD66.5 million. The deal needs US clearance and according to the President of Hamlin Transportation George Hamlin, it has a good chance of getting it. [more - press release]
