Cyprus Airways urges closure of Eurocypria

Cyprus Airways CEO, Kikis Lazarides, urged the Cypriot Government to close or merge stated-owned Eurocypria, arguing the nation is not large enough for two national carriers (Cyprus Mail, 28-Aug-09). Eurocypria Chairman, Lefteris Ioannou, stated the carrier is not competing with Cyprus Airways as it operates a regional network. Minister for Finance, Charilaos Stavrakis, is expected to hold a meeting with Mr Lazarides and Mr Ioannou in the coming weeks to resolve the issue.
