Air Djibouti and Cardiff Aviation to create new national carrier for Djibouti

Air Djibouti and Cardiff Aviation signed (21-May-2015) a MoU to create and implement a national carrier for Djibouti. Cardiff Aviation will implement and manage a European-level AOC, source aircraft, provide operational management services and MRO support for the airline. Freighter aircraft have been secured and the carrier will initially operate cargo services. Djibouti plans to develop two new airports and four ports to create an air-sea cargo network. The agreement follows a study identifying key markets for the airline based on the needs of neighbouring landlocked countries, governmental aid programmes in Africa, support for military installations in Djibouti and the need to deliver passengers to major business hubs such as Dubai and London. Cardiff Aviation chairman Bruce Dickinson said, "Djibouti is uniquely placed to provide a hub for investment from Europe, the Middle East and Asia into Africa." [more - original PR]
