Boeing considers options for expansion of South Carolina plant

Boeing announced plans to apply for permits to expand its newly acquired South Carolina plant, one of several key facilities for the B787 (AP, 26-Aug-2009). The US manufacturer acquired the plant from Vought for USD1 billion (USD580 million in cash and USD420 million in debt relief) in Jul-2009, and may use it as the basis for its second B787 production line. No decision on the location of the second production line will be taken until at least the end of the year. The second B787 assembly line is expected to come online by 2012.
