Australia's domestic pax numbers down 3.5% in Dec-2011, load factor stable

Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (24-Feb-2012) the following traffic highlights for Australian domestic airlines in Dec-2011:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.6 million, -3.5% year-on-year;
  • Top 10 domestic city pairs:
    • Melbourne-Sydney: 631,782, -5.7%;
    • Brisbane-Sydney: 379,968, -3.6%;
    • Brisbane-Melbourne: 279,043, +1.1%;
    • Gold Coast-Sydney: 203,426, -3.8%;
    • Adelaide-Melbourne: 166,317, -20.6%;
    • Melbourne-Perth: 163,799, -2.6%;
    • Perth-Sydney: 159,335, +2.2%;
    • Gold Coast-Melbourne: 151,643, -4.9%;
    • Adelaide-Sydney: 145,918, -9.1%;
    • Hobart-Melbourne: 101,155, -13.8%;
  • Load factor: 79%, +0.2 ppt;
    • Melbourne-Sydney: 81.5%, -2.7 ppts;
    • Brisbane-Sydney: 83.7%, -0.8 ppt;
