ASEAN liberalisation relies on completely voluntary initiative: NUS

National University of Singapore professor Alan Tam, speaking at the 2014 CAPA Asia Aviation & LCC Summit, stated (14-Oct-2014) unlike the EU where there is an institutional capacity to compel states to cooperate, ASEAN liberalisation relies on a completely voluntary initiative. He added that there are "many miles to go" in terms of creating a single aviation market in ASEAN similar to what is in place in Europe.
