AirAsia X to add seven or eight destinations in China in five years

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail, speaking at the CAPA Asia Aviation Summit, said (16-Nov-2016) the airline aims to add seven to eight destinations in China in the next five years. In the short-term the carrier will focus on increasing frequency on existing routes to stay "ahead of the game" on securing slots. Additional frequencies will also create more opportunities for passengers to connect to short-haul services. Mr Ismail said 40% to 50% of passengers in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok connect to short-haul routes. Mr Ismail also said the airline is seeking to increase operations to Chengdu.
