AirAsia welcomes first A320neo, 172nd aircraft for AirAsia Group

AirAsia held (15-Sep-2016) a welcoming ceremony for its first A320neo aircraft (9M-NEO) in Kuala Lumpur. GECAS delivered the aircraft as part of a sale and leaseback agreement for five A320neos, for which Asia Aviation Capital served as advisor and originator. The airline is the first in Southeast Asia to operate an A320neo powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines and the aircraft is the first A320neo to enter the GECAS portfolio. The aircraft is equipped with the Space Flex Cabin and is configured with 186 seats. AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said the aircraft will deliver fuel savings and additional range, which will be translated to lower airfares. Mr Fernandes said the aircraft will produce 5000 tonnes less CO2 per aircraft p/a, reduce NOx emissions by double digits, reduce engine noise and reduce maintenance costs. The aircraft is the 172nd to be delivered to AirAsia Group from total orders of 575 aircraft. [more - original PR] [more - original PR - CFM] [more - original PR - GECAS]
