Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral announce delays from ash cloud

Aerolineas Argentinas and Astral announced (09-Jun-2011) that for safety reasons, they decided to delay the departure of its services from AEP-Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and EZE-Ezeiza Airport, as from 10:00 Argentine time, due to the return of the volcanic ash cloud from the Chilean Volcano Puyehue to the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires. The carriers made note of the following cancellations: [more]

  • Until 12-Jun-2011: aeroparque Jorge Newbery to Bariloche, Chapelco, Esquel and vice versa
  • Until 09-Jun-2011: services between aeroparque y Trelew, Neuquen, Viedma, Río Gallegos, Calafate, Ushuaia, Río Grande, Comodoro Rivadavia, Bahía Blanca, Santa Rosa, San Rafael y vice versa.

The first cancellation occurred on 07-Jun-2011, but the resumption of many routes on 08-Jun-2011 had raised hopes that things would get back to normal (AFP, 10-Jun-2011). That is not the case, and most air terminals in central and southern Argentina will remain closed until there is a guarantee they can operate safely.
