Aero introduces passenger fee to cover NAMA's 'pay-as-you-go'

Aero Contractors introduced a NGN100 (USD0.66) tax on all fares as part of efforts to comply with Nigerian Airspace Management Agency's (NAMA) Pay-As-You-Go system (AllAfrica, 09-Sep-2010). Head of Commercial, Rob Prophet, stated NAMA's Pay-As-You-Go policy is "totally unmerited" and called on the agency to review the charges. Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has resolved that no airline should pay the charges, stating the move is illegal.

Aero Contractors: "We are greatly saddened by the situation and the approach of NAMA, but Aero is not in a position to take up another incremental government charge. We empathise with Nigerian passengers," Rob Prophet, Head of Commercial. Source: AllAfrica, 09-Sep-2010.
