A4A urges Congress to rework policies to improve US carriers global competitiveness

Airlines for America (A4A) president and CEO Nicholas Calio stated (12-Dec-2013) before the US Congress that US carriers are a strategic asset of the economy yet "the policies of our own government continue to impede the viability and competitiveness of our carriers." Mr Calio added, "Recent action in Congress further underscores the need for a cohesive National Airline Policy, in which the US government recognises US carriers as a strategic asset and the economic engine that drives 5% of GDP and 10 million jobs across the United States. Our government must play its appropriate role in ensuring US commercial aviation can survive in what is now a dynamic global aviation sector that is rapidly changing." [more - original PR]
