70% of Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways domestic routes operating at a loss

Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways are reportedly operating more than 70% of domestic routes at a loss (193 of 274 routes), with average load factors below 60% between Apr-2009 and Aug-2009 (Asahi Shimbun, 24-Oct-2009). Even on the traditionally profitable Tokyo Haneda services, 50 of the 70 routes had load factors under 60% in the five-month period.
