airberlin: Significantly higher capacity utilization in the first half-year

In June, airberlin was able to increase fleet capacity utilization by 3.4 percentage points to 84.85 percent in yearly comparison. Due to its optimization of the flight route network, Germany's second-largest airline company has more flights on offer on well-established routes and is therefore able to continuously increase the capacity utilization on individual flights.

The revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) likewise increased in June, i.e. by one percent to 4.84 billion. In the course of its flight plan optimization, airberlin has reduced the available seat kilometers (ASK) by three percent to 5.71 billion; the number of passengers in June decreased only slightly, namely by 1.6 percent to 3,246,367.

In the first six months of 2013, airberlin was able to increase fleet capacity utilization to 84.49 percent, i.e. by 3.4 percentage points in yearly comparison, and welcomed a total of 14.6 million passengers on board. The available seat kilometers totaled 26.63 billion and the revenue passenger kilometers amounted to 22.50 billion.

For 2013, airberlin has changed the way it calculates its capacity utilization. The capacity utilization calculation is now determined according to the sector standard, and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) are compared to the available seat kilometers (ASK). For the purpose of a yearly comparison, the capacity utilization for 2012 was likewise calculated anew.
