About

Established in 1962, Merpati Nusantara Airlines was an airline based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The carrier operated scheduled domestic scheduled service as well as international services to East Timor from its main base at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Merpati Nusantara Airlines was majority owned by the Indonesian government.

Merpati suspended all services on 01-Feb-2014 citing cash-flow problems from debts owing. Merpati requires more than USD16.7 million in funds to resume operations.

The Indonesian government planned to complete a privatisation tender for Merpati Nusantara Airlines in 2016. Three potential investors expressed interest in the privatisation plan, under which Indonesia's Government will offer a stake of up to 49% in the airline. The carrier planned to recommence operations in 2017 with 20 seat aircraft.

Surabaya District Court officially declared Merpati Nusantara Airlines bankrupt on 02-Jun-2022.
