US DoT awards new China rights, as Mainland carriers turn up the heat

US Transportation Secretary, Mary Peters, has awarded new services

to China from Atlanta and San Francisco (final decisions), as well as Chicago,

Newark, Detroit and Philadelphia (subject to further consultation), in the latest

round of route awards under the US-China bilateral air services agreement. Currently,

four US carriers – American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Northwest

Airlines and United Airlines - provide a total of ten daily passenger services

to Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.
