United Continental adds USD10 to fares

Analysis

United Airlines and Continental Airlines announced plans to raise fares on many US routes by USD10 per round trip. The last attempt to raise fares by US carriers failed when others did not follow American Airlines' lead.

JetBlue shares lead an upward trend for US airline shares, jumping 5.5%. JetBlue CEO David Barger said he believes carriers, specifically his company, are well positioned to handle rising oil prices. The only US carriers trading down on Monday were Republic Airways (-1.3%) and Delta Air Lines (-0.7%).
