Toronto's second airport debate: London International, Waterloo, Pickering and JC Munro in the mix

With Toronto's Pearson International Airport expected to reach capacity within the next 15 years, there does appear to be some vacillation concerning much-needed expansion of airport capacity in Canada's Southern Ontario. Plans for a new airport at Pickering to the northeast are still facing opposition while to the southwest the J C Munro airport at Hamilton still strives to achieve one million passengers annually and has seen much more growth in its cargo business.

Two possible alternative solutions are at London International Airport around 100 miles southwest of Toronto and which is closer to the US border (Michigan), and the Region of Waterloo International Airport, which is closer to Toronto, to the west, and in a high-tech industrial region. The fortunes of the two airports have been quite divergent, as this joint profile reveals.
