Tokyo International Airport installs Lockheed Martin WindTracer Lidar System

Analysis

Lockheed Martin LMT announced the installation by Japan Meteorological

Agency of a WindTracer Doppler Lidar system at Tokyo International Airport.

The Lockheed Martin WindTracer provides air traffic controllers advanced warning of wind hazards, enabling them to offer more precise and timely direction to pilots during takeoff and landing.

"We collaborated with the Kanematsu Corporation of Japan to introduce WindTracer to the Japan Meteorological Agency," said Dr Stephen Hannon, Products Group director for Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies. The system "significantly enhances the ability to detect and alert air traffic controllers to such meteorological events as wind shear, dry microbursts, gust fronts, turbulence and crosswinds."
