Bangkok (THAI AIRWAYS) - Thai Airways International Public Company Limited recently organized an annual Global Commercial Sales Meeting under the theme, "THAI Commercial Opportunity @ Suvarnabhumi", attended by THAI's general managers and sales managers worldwide. The event was held at the Dusit Thani Resort Hotel in Pattaya. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Wanchai Sarathulthai, THAI's Chairman of the Board of Directors, and THAI's future policy addresses were given by Mr. Somchainuk Engtrakul, THAI's Chairman of the Executive Board and Flg. Off. Apinan Sumanaseni, THAI's President. The meeting was attended by over 200 participants.

Mr. Wanchai Sarathulthat, THAI's Chairman of the Board of Directors, said THAI's performance for the third quarter was above the target and the opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport would further promote THAI's future operations and expansion. Under the current economic situation, THAI has adjusted its strategies and marketing tactics, including management restructuring in order to become more efficient and competitive. Mr. Wanchai stressed that THAI should explore the possibility of increasing the company's income through cargo operations overseas, as revenue from passengers alone may not be sufficient. "I would like to see THAI's revenue go up by another 10% and costs go down by another 10%", concluded Mr. Wanchai.

Mr. Somchainuk Engrakul, THAI's Chairman of the Executive Board, said the current global economic situation is very unstable, especially in Europe. There is also greater awareness of terrorist attacks worldwide. He therefore put special emphasis on THAI, as the flag carrier, establishing and implementing clear strategies for the handling of this type of situation, which will effect the country as a whole. Crisis management is extremely vital for all THAI's managers overseas, especially important is the maintenance of communications between all THAI offices. In addition, Mr. Somchainuk said core business operations alone may not be sufficient and THAI should look into other areas of investment, especially the expansion of business units overseas, such as Catering.

Flg. Off. Apinan Sumanaseni, THAI's President, stressed the importance of staff loyalty and internal stability. He encouraged staff to maximize their performance for the benefit of the company. THAI will also continue to revitalize its brand statement, "Smooth as Silk", which has gained worldwide recognition and proved to be a successful programme in the past. THAI's President announced his policy of improving staff performance and stressed the concept of speed with accountability for staff performance which includes good governance practices. "I would like all THAI staff, especially the frontline staff, to give all their hearts and loyalty to the company because with that we will achieve our main goal and targeted results."
