Sky’s the limit for Air Berlin’s yields

9-Jul-2009

Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, reported another strong set of traffic numbers last month, as the benefits of its network restructure continue to flow through in the form of solid yields.

In Jun-2009, Air Berlin transported 2.57 million passengers, a 4.9% reduction year-on-year as the carrier reduced capacity by 2.7%. Average load factor eased 1.8 ppts to 79.1%.

The carrier’s revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) surged 14% in Jun-2009 year-on-year to EUR 6.07 cents. In 11 of the past 14 months, Air Berlin has enjoyed double-digit increases in yield, with growth as high as 23% (in Nov-2008 year-on-year).
