Rolls-Royce powers first Boeing 747-400 freighter conversion
LONDON (Rolls-Royce) - Cathay Pacific Airways has taken delivery of the world's first Boeing 747-400 to be converted from passenger use to freighter, powered by four Rolls-Royce RB211-524G-T engines.
Cathay Pacific is the launch customer for the 747-400BCF and will take delivery of six conversions over the next two years, with options for an additional six.
A delivery ceremony for the first freighter was held at the Taikoo Aircraft Engineering Company (TAECO) facility at Xiamen Airport, China, where the conversion programme is based. A full flight test programme was carried out at Hong Kong International Airport.
Cathay Pacific already operates 29 Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 747s in addition to 26 Trent 700-powered A330s, 16 Boeing 777s with Trent 800s and three A340-600s, for which the Trent 500 is the sole engine.
