Republic Airways drops, United and Continental rise, LAN and TAM advance
US carriers' shares were mixed yesterday, though healthy gains by United Airlines (+1.7%) and Continental Airlines (1.6%) helped the AMEX Airline Index to rise 0.4%, as oil prices eased 0.8% in New York.
Republic drops on fleet talk
Republic Airways Holdings' CFO, Hal Cooper, stated the airline is considering Bombardier's new C-Series regional aircraft as a potential replacement for Frontier Airlines' A320s, of which leases on 48 aircraft are scheduled to expire between 2013 and 2017. Republic Airways' stock dropped 1.8% yesterday.
TAM and GOL higher
Brazilian stocks were higher yesterday on Brazilian Census Bureau data showing GDP expanded 1.3% in 3Q2009 compared with 2Q2009. TAM and GOL added 2.5% and 1.6%, respectively in New York, while LAN added 2.5%.
