Phase II of Single European Sky forwarded, but resistance still lingering
Despite the presence of a common market, a common currency and the increasing permeability of national borders in the European Union (EU), Europe's approach to its airspace management remains fractured, at best. The 27 EU Member States currently retain control of airspace roughly coinciding with their national boundaries, although some, such as the UK's NATS, have greater and more wider ranging responsibilities.
