Osaka Kansai Airport to rise as North Asia liberalises

Premium Analysis

Kansai International Airport commenced operating its new 4,000

m second runway this week, allowing the airport to become Japan's first airport

with 24-hour operations. This status could be a major advantage as Japan liberalises

access for foreign airlines under its 'Asia Gateway Plan'. The signing yesterday

of the Japan-Korea 'open skies' agreement could particularly stimulate traffic

to/from Kansai.
