Lufthansa heads east to new destinations

Analysis

Launch of non-stop service from Frankfurt to Astana / Daily flights from Munich to St. Petersburg.

Lufthansa is expanding its services in an eastward direction. This summer the airline is launching flights to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan since the end of 1997.
Starting March 26th the new destination will be served non-stop, twice weekly from Frankfurt. Flights, operated by an Airbus A330, are scheduled to leave Frankfurt on Mondays and Thursdays at 13.20 hrs. The return flights will depart from Astana the same day at 04.15 hrs.

Kazakhstan is the second-largest state within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources, and has achieved above-average economic growth. Lufthansa is now also boosting its services to Almaty, Kazakhstan's second city. With the introduction of the summer timetable, it will offer two more flights a week enabling passengers to reach Almaty daily from Frankfurt. Travellers who would like to explore the tourist attractions of Kazakhstan now have an ideal opportunity to do so. Introductory fares start at 561 euros, including taxes and charges. Fares are valid from Frankfurt, and connecting flights are available from all German airports.

Lufthansa is also launching a new service to Eastern Europe from its Munich hub. As of April 22nd, it will serve St. Petersburg daily with an Airbus A319. Flights will depart from Munich at 11.15 hrs. The return flight will leave St. Petersburg at 17.05 hrs.

St. Petersburg has more than 4,000 monuments and over 250 museums, and has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anyone wishing to experience the White Nights there this summer should book now. Bargain hunters can fly from Munich to the city on the River Neva for as little as 379 euros, including taxes and charges. Here, too, connecting flights are available from all German airports. Munich currently offers the highest number of Lufthansa flights to Eastern Europe - 298 connections per week.

All fares are valid if booked online via the website www.lufthansa.com. On top of that, Lufthansa makes a ticket service charge of ten euros. The charge varies for reservations made through other distribution channels. Passengers can obtain information about Lufthansa flights and make reservations via the Lufthansa Call Center on "0180 - LUFTHANSA" (0180 5 83 84 26), Lufthansa travel agency partners and at Lufthansa sales counters at airports.
